The Finnish Psychological Association asked us to redesign their magazine and give a facelift for their website. During the process, it became clear that the association’s whole visual identity was in need of realignment. Instead of only magazine and website, we designed a comprehensive identity system. Additional costs compared to the initial brief were modest, and the total cost significantly smaller than if the identity design had been a separate project.
The new identity builds around the logotype that binds all three facets together: the association, the magazine and the website. The logotype plays with the psi-symbol, which is traditionally used as the symbol for psychology in the western cultures. Together with smooth uncoated paper stock, large green surfaces add warmth to the simple typographic look.
The redesigned Psykologi magazine is an exception among other Finnish association magazines. It uses a lot of lively and colorful illustrations, that range from abstract to naive to surreal.
